Silk Weight and Grade

Silk Weight and Grade

All Dreamsilk products are made from OEKO-TEX® certified 6A grade mulberry silk, ensuring that even the thinnest products have the strength and luster your brand needs.

Fabric type and weight determine how a silk shirt drapes, breathes, and holds its shape during wear. For shirts, this choice is more nuanced than for sleepwear or accessories because the garment needs to perform across body movement, styling, and all-day wear.

Momme option:

16MM:16mm is a standard weight for silk shirts. it provides enough opacity for professional wear while remaining exceptionally fluid and cost-effective.

19MM:The Industry Benchmark (Recommended) shows it is more durable and has better drape than 16mm.

22MM:Excellent wrinkle resistance. Due to its high fiber density, this thickness of silk is less prone to seam slippage, making it ideal for manufacturing long-lasting garments.

25MM:Heavyweight silk,High-end Luxury

Size Grading and Fit

Size Grading and Fit

Because woven silk lacks natural stretch, the precision of fit and tailoring in a silk shirt is critical to ensure an elegant drape and prevent seam stress during movement. We support comprehensive size grading from XS to XXL for both women's and men's collections.

  • Standard US/EU/UK size charts available as starting templates
  • Custom size charts accepted — send your spec sheets or tech packs and we grade accordingly
  • Relaxed fit, regular fit, and slim fit options per style
  • Precision pattern grading across all sizes to perfectly maintain collar, shoulder, and sleeve proportions
  • Fit samples in key sizes before bulk production to confirm measurements

For brands selling across multiple regions, we can produce the same style in different size charts per market within a single order.

Customize different types of necklines

Customize different types of necklines

We engineer collars to define your brand’s aesthetic, supporting both standard silhouettes and proprietary designs. Choose from Point, Spread, Camp, Mandarin, or Bow-Tie styles, each optimized for silk’s natural drape. Construction methods are selected per fabric behavior: fused interlining for crisp structure or soft-roll techniques for fluid movement. All collar builds are validated during sampling to ensure exact alignment with your tech pack and retail standards.

Craft and Detail

Silk shirts are worn visibly, handled constantly, and judged at arm's length. Every construction detail either builds or undermines the product's quality perception.

Pattern Matching at Seams

Pattern Matching at Seams

When a printed silk shirt is assembled, the pattern must align where fabric panels meet — at side seams, yoke seams, and pocket placement. Misaligned prints are immediately visible on a worn shirt. We control fabric direction and cutting layout to maintain pattern continuity across every panel.
Collar Symmetry and Structure

Collar Symmetry and Structure

The collar is the first thing people see. Both sides must be identical in shape, height, and roll. We check collar symmetry at the individual unit level, inspecting point alignment, fusing adhesion, and collar stand height before the shirt moves to final assembly.
Buttonhole Precision

Buttonhole Precision

Buttonholes on silk must be cut and finished cleanly — silk frays easily and a rough buttonhole edge will unravel with use. We use reinforced bartack stitching at each buttonhole end and inspect cut edges for clean finishing before buttons are attached.

Bias-Cut Precision

Bias-Cut Precision

In the manufacturing process of silk garments, cutting is the first hurdle that determines the visual appeal and durability of the finished product. Due to the smoothness, fluidity, and unique drape of silk fabric, different styles place almost stringent demands on cutting angles and techniques. Dreamsilk uses different cutting methods for different garment types to ensure a better reproduction of the designer's intended effect.

High-quality sewing process standards

High-quality sewing process standards

At Dreamsilk, we believe that the structural integrity of silk garments is just as important as the luster of the fabric itself.

FRENCH SEAMS:Raw edges encased inside the seam. No exposed threads. Interior feels completely smooth.Silk is prone to fraying. The French Seam provides a double layer of security, preventing the fabric from pulling apart at the stress points.

Overlock Stitch:Our overlock density is set to 13-15 stitches per inch, ensuring that the edges are perfectly sealed against fraying without adding unnecessary bulk or stiffness to the drape of the silk.

silk fabric Pre-treatment

silk fabric Pre-treatment

In Dreamsilk's production standards, fabrics must undergo rigorous pre-treatment before entering the cutting station. This is not only to eliminate the inherent stress of natural fibers, but also to ensure that every garment received by global wholesalers meets international standards.

Silk Shirts: Fabric, Styling, and Care Guide

Silk shirts are a cornerstone of premium fashion — worn across casual, workwear, evening, and resort contexts. Understanding fabric options, style applications, and care requirements helps B2B buyers source more precisely and provide better product information to end customers.

What Makes a Silk Shirt Different

A silk shirt stands apart from cotton or polyester alternatives in three ways: drape, surface quality, and skin feel. Silk fabric follows the contours of the body without clinging, reflects light with a natural depth that synthetic fabrics cannot replicate, and feels cool and smooth against the skin. These qualities make silk the default choice for premium shirt lines in both women's and men's fashion.

The most commonly used silk shirt fabrics are crepe de chine (matte, textured, versatile), charmeuse (glossy, fluid, evening-oriented), silk twill (structured, subtle texture), and habotai (lightweight, soft, layering-friendly). Each produces a distinctly different shirt character from the same base fiber.

How to Style a Silk Shirt

For brands developing silk shirt collections, understanding styling context helps with product photography, marketing copy, and collection planning. Silk shirts are styled across four primary contexts: tucked into tailored trousers for workwear, worn open over a tank top for casual layering, paired with shorts or linen pants for resort and vacation wear, and styled under a blazer for evening and event dressing. Camp collar and Hawaiian silk shirts are primarily positioned for resort and casual contexts, while button-down and mandarin collar shirts cross into workwear and evening territory.

How to Wash a Silk Shirt

Silk shirts are more exposed to body oils, perspiration, and environmental contact than sleepwear, so they may need washing more frequently. The standard care approach: hand wash or gentle machine cycle in cold water with a silk-friendly detergent inside a mesh bag. Never wring or twist the fabric. Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight. For brands, including a care card in the packaging or on the product page reduces damage-related returns.

How to Iron a Silk Shirt

Iron silk shirts while they are still slightly damp, using a low heat setting. Always use a pressing cloth between the iron and the silk surface to prevent shine marks or heat damage. Iron on the reverse side of the fabric when possible. Steam is an effective alternative — a handheld steamer at a short distance removes wrinkles without direct contact. For brands providing care guidance, recommending steaming over ironing is a safer message for end consumers.
